Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Under the direction of the Site Coordinator/Area Coordinator, the Tutor will ensure that the YMCA meets the needs of its members in the safest and most enjoyable atmosphere. They are responsible for planning and executing instructional plans for all assigned clients. The Tutor communicates and creates collaborative relationships with students, parents/guardians and other significant Tutors. The Tutor accepts, demonstrates, and teaches the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.


Primary – Program:

  1. Assess students using formal and informal instructional strategies. 

  2. Create and implement instructional plans to assist students in reaching their academic goals. 

  3. Build a positive line of communication with parents and teachers to ensure that the students’ needs are identified and met. 

  4. Communicate guidelines, strategies, goals and progress of instructional time with parents/guardians.

  5. Report to and update the Regional Director/Area Coordinator with goals, strategies, and progress as requested. 

  6. Responsible for completing any administrative tasks related to the instructional position. 

  7. Work to develop positive relationships with parents, students, and other team members. 

  8. Create an environment of interest, confidence, and support within which students grow. 

  9. Actively pursue training, learning opportunities, and certificates relating to the position.

Accurately assesses personal feelings, strengths and limitations and how they impact relationships. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.


  1. Bachelor’s degree, in depth knowledge of subject area, and experience working with student to achieve academic goals. 

  2. Minimum of two years’ experience working to help students achieve academic goals. 

  3. Ability to be innovative, adaptive, and resourceful in creating instructional lesson plans. 

  4. Possess knowledge of resources for a variety of instructional methods. 

  5. Brings to this position maturity, responsibility, and a sincere interest in working with students. 


  1. Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.

  2. Must be able to lift/carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.

  3. Ability to lift/assist a small to average child.

  4. Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.

  5. Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

  6. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
