The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Program Aid with the Boys and Girls Club for Oklahoma City Area Command, located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the STEM Program Aide is responsible for helping The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club in achieving its mission of motivating young people and their families to reach their full potential academically, socially, physically and spiritually. The STEM Program Aide will act as a positive role model providing leadership and guidance to The Club members. The STEM Program Aide’s primary purpose is the improvement of learning opportunities for our members. The STEM Program Aid is an instructional leader who works in close collaboration with the Unit and Program Directors to provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) based programming through small group activities and use of BGCA curriculum. Their role is to support program instructional / enrichment goals by ensuring activities are structured, age-appropriate, and contribute to priority outcomes.

Essential Functions

Leads a structured Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club approved youth program; promotes and stimulates program participation; assists coworkers as an instructional aid in the programs lead. Maintains and develop consistent and comprehensive curriculum in STEM education that is both fun and instructional. Plans, promotes and executes technology/STEM activities during afterschool and summer hours. Maintain and use Club technology resources on a daily basis.Participate in BGCA national programs and trainings (MyFuture, Career Launch, Digital Arts Festival, FastForWord, coding, etc.) as necessary. Create engaging STEM-focused local programs with the ability to multi-task several projects. Supervises members in program area. Provides guidance and academic instruction to members during Homework Help Sessions. Supervises members in recreational and physical activities; implements safety standards in all program activities and enforces The Club rules and regulations. Provides consistency in leadership and guidance; acts as a positive role model and behaves in a manner that is appropriate to your position and the corporate values of The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club during all activities on and off The Club property. Welcomes new members and their families; participates in The Club orientation process. Completes and submits weekly statistics forms in an accurate and timely manner. May participate in special programs and/or events during or after normal Club hours including nights and weekends. May drive The Club bus to transport members and/or staff. Adheres to The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club policies and procedures. Maintains all equipment used for programs in good working order; reports equipment needs to Program Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to build effective and positive relationships with people of all ages. Ability to lead and motivate people participating in The Club activities. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.

Education and Experience

Associate’s Degree in a STEM, IT, Elementary Education or related field, or equivalent applicable experience or training. Knowledge of youth development with a minimum of one year experience in youth programs.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Must be at least 18 years of age. Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, walking and running with frequent changes between activities. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
