The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Special Events Coordinator for the Command/Unit,located in Savannah, Georgia.
Job Summary
Assist Development Director in creating strategies to increase identified and potential donor support through event specific venues; plans, supervises, manages and monitors the day-to-day operations, staff and volunteers of special events throughout the Command.Provides hands on support to all development departments; plans, coordinates, and organizes the flow of information, manpower, material and other resources; ensures compliance with program policies and procedures; prepares statistical reports as it relates to special events; works in close partnership with Director of Development to enhance donor relationships and increase donor support through implementation; also works with other management staff, community agencies, corporations, Corps Officers and Department Heads. Serves as a point of contact to all advertising and media contact.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission, philosophy, culture, protocol, and organizational structure; Possess excellent project management skills,including the creation and utilization of budgets, timelines, event schedules and other appropriate tools to facilitate organized, well-run events; Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same; Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate programs, meetings, and special events; Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate a variety of special event strategies in order to determine their effectiveness in achieving short and long-range goals: Ability to develop and administer a special event budget; Ability to supervise, lead, motivate, monitor, and evaluate employees and volunteers in context of special events; Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete, and timely manner; Ability to work independently and with limited supervision; Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army Officers, employees, members of advisory organizations, and the community. Ability to use/operate various general office equipment to include computer, telephone, fax machine, and photocopy machine; Ability to read, write and communicate the English language; Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, including the providing of clear instructions to employees; Ability to speak before small and large groups of people; Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints; Ability to establish goals and objectives and monitor their effective implementation; Ability to apply discretion and independent judgment and exercise confidentiality; Ability to be creative in generating ideas and enhancing development programs, as well as, demonstrating and practicing the ability to be a self- starter; Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and Christian principles; Conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism and donor care.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or related field; Three (3) year's progressively responsible experience demonstrating a record of accomplishment in donor development, special events planning and managing, preferably in a non-profit setting; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver's License
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements; Ability to travel safely to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.; Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5- 10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise.
