The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for Shelter
Director, located in Norman, OK.
This is a full time position, 40 hours per week, $14.28 per hour.
Assures the continuous operation of The Salvation Army Emergency shelters and Food Services Center; serves as technical resource to Case Managers to assist them in performing client needs assessments; monitors overall program effectiveness as well as the changing needs; provides recommendation for improving services and/or procedures.
Supervises and participates in performing the day-to-day activities necessary for the smooth operation of a housing facility providing housing, food, counseling, and educational assistance; ensures that paperwork is completed, and house rules are followed by all clients; ensures compliance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D., AND two years experience working in a social or public service environment with experience assisting the public and two years progressively responsible management work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid State Drivers License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of household management techniques.
Ability to prepare and process records and statistics in an accurate and complete manner.
Ability to supervise resident activities to ensure facility is properly maintained and secured in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social services service delivery system.
Knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community.
Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices.
Ability to assume additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the supervisor.
Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors.
Ability to interview clients and to obtain pertinent information.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and complete case notes and client records.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines.
Ability to build and maintain effective and professional working relationships with clients and community agencies.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to think clearly and quickly in order to maintain control of client caseload.
Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple cases at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 10 lbs), 5-10% of work
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
