JOB SUMMARY:

 

Provides pre-school services for children including personal care, hygiene, learning and development activities and specialized programs; plans, develops, and teaches pre-school classes; prepares and maintains records; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of child care property.

Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.

 

Develops and implements lesson plans from a curriculum which are age-group program specific;
utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.

 

Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.

 

Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.

 

Organizes and supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children
on the playground. Tidies playground when necessary.

 

Washes children’s hands and faces after morning play activities, before lunch, and again in late
afternoon before parents pick up children, or before dinner, whichever comes first.

 

Monitors and ensures the personal hygiene of the children, including toilet assistance, diapering, etc.; adheres to sanitary procedures including but not limited to labeling of cots, cubbies and storing bedding and clothing in the proper manner; labels all shelves with pictures pertaining to where toys should be stored.

 

Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.

 

Decorates rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.

 

Turns off lights before leaving the Child Care and straightens the room before leaving each day.

 

Maintains the classroom materials in an orderly fashion.

 

Cleans the classrooms, tables, floors, toys, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards.

 

Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and required reports (attendance, development progress, discipline reports, daily health checks, etc.).

 

Reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner and complete accident report.

 

Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents.

 

Follows guidelines provided on Standards of Performance.

 

Assist in planning events for parents to come in and interact with their children.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.

 

Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.

 

Serves as a
substitute teacher for other classes when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

High school diploma or G.E.D. required, And  CDA two years experience teaching child development programs in a church or pre-school,

 

or

 

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge,
skills, and abilities.

 

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

 

Valid state driver's license

 

C.P.R. and First Aid Certification

 

Health Card Certification

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.

 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood curriculum development.

 

Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the
safety of children.

 

Knowledge of the difficulties faced by children of substance users.

 

Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general early childhood education
curriculum.

 

Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.

 

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

 

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

 

Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.

 

Ability to lift, hold, and carry children on a regular basis (up to 50 lbs.).

 

Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Work is performed in a normal pre-school environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
