The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Assistant Divisional Director of Emergency Disaster Services for Georgia Divisional Headquarters, located in Norcross, Georgia.



Job Summary

Assists the Divisional Emergency Disaster Services Director with the development, coordination and implementation of disaster services including planning, directing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the provision of Division-wide emergency disaster services; establishes and maintains appropriate inventory of supplies and ensures the readiness of all disaster equipment; responds to disasters in an organized and timely manner and assists the EDS Director in establishing an Incident Command Post and liaisons with local units and with the State of Georgia; prepares reports during and at the end of the disaster project.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform all duties with an understanding of the mission, ministry, philosophy, culture, and protocol of The Salvation Army and conducts all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles. Knowledge of the general principles and practices of disaster services management.Knowledge of the National Incident Management System, Incident Command Structure, the National Response Plan, and the State of Georgia Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Knowledge of The Salvation Army's role in disaster services. Knowledge of the principles and practices of general office management Knowledge of Internet research and training resources available. Knowledge of personnel management. Knowledge of effective practices of volunteer management Ability to articulate the Salvation Army's positions and services before the media. Ability to develop and deliver a meaningful instructional and informative presentation. Ability to develop and present training materials before a large group. Ability to lead, direct, and supervise employees with like skills. Ability to coordinate and Instruct staffing effectively to meet disaster relief needs. Ability to use computer programs to monitor and guide locations of vehicles with GPS Units. Ability to adapt quickly to emergency situations and response. Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with employees in the field, outside vendors, and members of other disaster services organizations. Ability to create and maintain databases using Microsoft products. Ability to create reports reflecting Inventory of volunteers, staff, equipment, and resources. Skill In organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following-up assignments with a minimum of direction. Skill In planning, organizing, assigning, directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of volunteers. Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Emergency Management or a related field, and Two years supervisory experience planning, preparing, and facilitating the provision of disaster services, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.



Licenses and Certifications
Valid Driver License


FEMA Professional Development Series Certification (or ability to obtain within one year).



Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift to 60 Pounds. Ability to operate cars, trucks (automatic and standard) Ability to perform work at higher elevations including while standing on ladders/step stools. Ability to perform work at night and/or while in dark environments with extreme noise levels and temperatures as needed. Work may be performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Occasionally work is performed at disaster scenes which can be hazardous and chaotic; where a heightened sense of awareness is required to maintain safety and temporary facilities are used such as working out of multiple trailers storing food and supplies, including frozen and refrigerated trailers.May be exposed to various types of hazards including but not limited to: forest or range fires, floods, hurricane, tornados, snow/ice storms, droughts, technological hazards such as major transportation accidents, oil spills, industrial fires, explosions, fixed nuclear accidents, hazardous material spills, man- made hazards (such as wars, terrorist attacks, civil unrest, outages of energy-producing resources).
