HIV Outreach Worker
Provide syringe exchange and related services such as HIV testing and education to target populations at pre-determined neighborhood sites.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Makes contact with new clients to conducts syringe exchange, disseminates HIV risk-reduction and other health education materials, educates clients, make referrals to testing sites, drug treatment programs and other social services.
Provides crisis intervention services as needed.
Adheres to established safety guidelines.
Documents client contacts both in individual case records and general reports Completes incident reports and activity log.
Assists with orientation of new paid and volunteer staff.
Assists with evaluation of program protocols and provides input to program development process.
Ensures that program supplies are adequately stocked for both off-site and on-site exchange.
Promotes and models the goals of the program and the mission of Circle Health Services during outreach activities.
Facilitates community awareness of the program and its services through informal interaction with community members.
Contributes to departmental and organizational decision-making through active participation in the process.
Works effectively and positively with co-workers, volunteers, and other departments.
Attention to Detail: ability to process detailed information effectively and consistently.
Communication Proficiency: able to present ideas to groups of people in a manner that is understandable and appropriate to the audience level; expresses self clearly in writing; able to take complex benefit issues and make them understandable based on the audience’s knowledge and experience.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio Driver’s license
- Chemical dependency knowledge-based
- Knowledge of Cleveland drug culture
- Previous outreach experience
- Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) preferred
Physical Demands/Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. It requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. Travel and work outside of normal hours may be required for meetings, presentations, trainings and other events.
