Senior Accountant

At Magnolia, our Senior Accountant develops, interprets, and implements complex financial and accounting concepts or techniques for financial reporting and analysis of the company’s performance. They will be in direct support of front-line business unit managers to assure accurate reporting and performance is communicated effectively and efficiently. This position works from our headquarters in Waco, Texas. 



This position reports to the Controller. 



This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 



  • Upholds Magnolia’s mission, vision and values 

  • Conducts special studies to analyze complex financial transactions related to operational activities across all Magnolia entities 

  • Prepares recommendations for policy, procedure, control, or action 

  • Works in conjunction with staff in a variety of departments to identify opportunities for improvement on policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy of financial data 

  • Manages the quarterly departmental budget forecasts and monthly variance reporting to management across the company 

  • Creates and analyzes monthly budget versus actual financial statements for operating business units 

  • Provides detailed GL reporting to budget leads within the company and assists them by researching answers to budgetary questions 

  • Analyzes GL account activity and helps identify anomalies in the monthly financials that may indicate a breakdown in departmental policies and procedures 

  • Establishes databases of pertinent information, including various analytical reports used in analyzing future plans and forecasts 

  • Strong understanding of financial metrics and cash flow management 

  • Evaluates underlying components driving financial trends 

  • Partners with the Director of Finance in the development and maintenance of the company’s annual operating plan 

  • Month end closing including transaction review, accruals, journal entries and reconciliations 

  • Complete fixed asset depreciation schedules 

  • Assist with the coordination of financial audits 

  • Filing of monthly sales tax reports 

  • Oversee Concur expense module 

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge or experience using NetSuite accounting software and Adaptive Insights Planning tool, preferred 

  • Strong experience using Excel required 

  • Comprehensive understanding of financial statements and the accounting relationships among them 

  • Strong communication skills and previous experience working with higher level management 



  • Bachelors degree in Accounting (preferred) or Finance 

  • 3-5 years of related experience and/or training required, preferably with an emphasis on accounting and operations
