Database and Bioinformatics Resource Project Manager

The Immune Epitope Database and Analysis Resource (IEDB; http://iedb.org), a freely available online resource supported by NIAID since 2003, is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as Project Manager. The Project Manager will drive expansion of the resource in support of our mission to further aid in the development of vaccines, immunotherapeutics, and diagnostics, and assists scientists to better understand immune mechanisms.

 

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide oversight and direction for day-to-day operational issues
  • Coordinate overall project activities and provide guidance in a broad-range of areas (e.g. needs assessment, prioritization) to ensure projects are on-track and meeting objectives
  • Assist the PIs in establishing multi-year planning strategies that ensure the long-term success of the project
  • Work with the PIs to bring in additional funding via proposal writing
  • Facilitate the flow of information within the project team and throughout the organization as well as to external collaborators and sponsoring agencies
  • Organize and run project meetings
  • Establish and manage budgets, handle administrative functions, and manage subcontractor/consultant relations
  • Generate progress reports and other deliverable project documentation
  • Lead recruiting efforts
  • Directly supervise the scientific curators and the document specialist(s), and manage the curation process
  • Manage outreach activities (ex. exhibit booths, annual user workshop, knowledgebase)
  • Supervise and coordinate the preparation and submission of abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts for scientific publications and conferences
  • Represent the project and the PIs in technical and administrative capacities at external forums (e.g., meetings, conferences, and vendor contacts) as needed

 

This full-time position requires:

A degree in the biological sciences, chemistry, bioinformatics or computer science, or comparable combination of education and professional experience. Background and experience in project management and research coordination. Demonstrated ability to identify scientific or technical importance, relevance of problems and results, and feasibility of projects in science. Ability to work with a diverse set of communities – researchers, administrators, technical staff, and programmers, to solve problems and build consensus. Strong ability to prioritize tasks and goals in a highly changeable environment. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with peers, superiors, and subordinates, including ability to seek mutually beneficial solutions where possible. Strong and demonstrated organizational skills, oral and written communications skills, including communication of advanced scientific concepts. Knowledge of immunology, relational databases, and software engineering a plus.
