Loss Prevention Coordinator, Rockford, IL
This is an exempt position.
To properly record all accidents under Landstar operating authority; complying with federal motor carrier safety regulations, state and local laws, and company policies and procedures on behalf of the company. Responsible for risk assessment of drivers by evaluating safety performance and behavior; make judgements on disposition of driver, assign appropriate training or disqualify driver from operating under our authority due to high risk of exposure and financial impact to the company
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Respond immediately to accident hotline
Investigate accidents and record in AS/400 and eRIMS
Responsible for company compliance with federal regulations in all aspects of DOT accident recording, post-accident testing, and reasonable suspicion testing
Maintain open communication with RMCS
Determine when assignment of independent adjuster needs to occur; assign and instruct adjuster our exact demands to reduce liability. Monitor his performance and report for thoroughness.
Audit adjuster reports, police reports & photos for accuracy of facts.
Report preventability/ accident ruling to operator and contractor.
Manage and advise assigned operator group
Perform operator reviews following operator compliance notification, motorist complaint, accident, or other infraction, determine training need and execute disciplinary action, including termination when appropriate.
Perform and evaluate simulation training.
Handle correspondence from the motoring public when complaints are safety related.
Contribute educational information in Safety Newsletter for distribution to our drivers, agents, customers and employees.
Rotate on-call 24/7 accident reporting, nights and weekends with company equipment. Must be immediately available for all safety emergencies operators, contractors, agents or customers incur.
Audit accident files for completeness-accuracy
Travel to Safety events assigned, prepare for and conduct Safety meetings, No Zone presentations to our drivers, agents, customers and motoring public and other Safety outreach events as assigned
Inform management whenever fatal/high exposure occurs
Review disputes with drivers regarding all Safety related issues.
Availability to travel independently without supervision to conduct company business and follow company expense report policy (travel = estimated 10% of the time)
Must perform duties to the standards of the job description and comply with the company's policies, practices, and procedures.
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Strong, intermediate level of Word, PowerPoint and Excel preferred
Proven independent decision making skills
Effective communication skills. Communicates decisions clearly and effectively both verbally and in written form
Ability to perform Safety relevant oral presentations
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Proven ability to work without direct supervision and make decisions independently
Prior experience in transportation, safety, or loss prevention field preferred
Accuracy in reporting crucial, confidential details to management (includes executives) related to possible increased liability/exposure
Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school, preferred; one to two years related
experiences; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Ability to read, write and speak English.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
