Director - Expedited Operations
Directs and coordinates the Corporate Operations activities of the company to insure that shipments are moved on time, and that Express Centers, Business Capacity Owners, and Truck Operators are managing their business in accordance with company Policies and Procedures; and profitable revenue growth is achieved.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Direct activities of the Corporate Operations Department.
Monitor the Express Centers, Business Capacity Owners and Truck Operators, and employees for compliance and success with the company's Policies and Procedures.
Train new Express Centers and continually assist them in improving their operational capabilities to achieve service, revenue, and profit goals.
Evaluate existing procedures and standards. Actively implement the Landstar Management System for improvements and assist executive and information systems management in development of new or amended policies and procedures or system enhancements.
Initiate changes designed to improve control and efficiency of department, company, Express Centers, and Business Capacity Owners and Truck operators.
Work closely with executive management and with other department directors to ensure maximum cooperation and efficiency between departments.
Review, make recommendations, and comply with the budget for the department.
Monitor line haul cost goals and actual results for Express Centers, recommend corrective action and monitor for success.
Directly handle and resolve problem situations that arise with customers, BCO's or Truck Operators, and agents as needed.
Perform or delegate the following supervisory duties as needed:
Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
Issue written and oral instructions to department employees.
Assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
Evaluate and standardize procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
Identify employees for expanded responsibilities and growth opportunities.
Develop and maintain reports to measure effective and completion of work delegated to department employees.
Demonstrated ability to use enterprise computer systems to perform and manage work, especially for multi-modal cargo transportation and trucking dispatch systems.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and internet based programs for performing day-to-day operations and collecting data for management reporting functions.
Good understanding of geography.
Must have knowledge of D.O.T. regulations, company safety requirements, and overall policies and procedures of the company.
Ability to manage employees and business relationships within the company with co-workers, and customers and prioritize work according to the flexible needs of our customers.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; and five to seven years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
