Indirect Technician - C&T Lab-Lynchburg Lab-Analytical

Scope:

This position serves as technical support for
compounding, QC laboratory, and the Process Engineering team. They support and
build capability in these groups through their daily activities and involvement
in the batch making and testing process. This position requires strong
analytical chemistry fundamentals, skills necessary for creating Bills of
Materials (BOMs) and Manufacturing Directions (MIs), and an understanding of
batch process, formula, and equipment to perform initial troubleshooting of OOS
batches. They must understand and follow all cGMP and cGLP requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing QC lab
    analysts’ skills for autonomous and efficient in-process batch adjustments such
    as pH, viscosity, specific gravity, and color matching.

  • On the floor
    batch observation to identify defects and/or improvements in batching
    instructions (ie too much or too little mixing, better order of addition of
    chemicals, etc)

  • Coaching of
    compounders to clarify understanding of key batch making steps

  • Creation and/or
    update of BOMs and MIs under the direction of a Process Engineer

  • Raw material
    ingredient knowledge and general understanding of impact to formulae

  • Lean and 5S labs

  • Lab batching to
    test out adjustments, root cause investigations, and batch process improvements

  • Creative problem
    solving

  • Successfully
    prepping, using, and calibrating necessary instrumentation

  • Ability to
    interact and collaborate with a broad diversity of coworkers including
    compounders, QC lab analysts, and process engineers

  • Strong attention
    to detail and thorough documentation

  • Flexibility to
    support troubleshooting on weekends

    Education & Experience:

  • A BS or MS degree
    in Chemistry, Biology, Cosmetic Science.

  • 3+ years of
    experience working with Hair Care, Skin Care and Personal Care products; with
    hands-on knowledge of batching processes and adjustments



    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Positive energy
    and great oral and written communication skills

  • A hands on
    approach to solving problems utilizing scientific and six sigma methods

  • Familiarity with
    regulatory standards including GMP
