Engineer - Process-Lynchburg Engineering
The Process Engineer is responsible for introduction of new formulas to the plant from laboratory batches through scale up and validation, introducing process improvements (either through equipment, processing parameters, or operator training), monitoring existing processes to identify trends in production, and implement other continuous improvement projects in the Compounding department.This position will interact with external and internal customers (New Projects team, Validations team, and Engineering team in addition to the compounding group).This position will also assist with failure investigations, remediation processes, and new equipment installations.
Implements all responsibilities in a safe manner, following all company safety rules and OSHA regulations.
Acts as the primary technical contact point for external customers
Develops rigorous and repeatable manufacturing instructions through Design of Experiments.
Communicates with maintenance and other departments to develop production and design standards to ensure optimal levels of performance;
Manages laboratory batch planning as well as scale up batches
Reviews data from all experimental batches and generates reports for customers (internal and external)
Coordinates supervision of customer monitored batches along with the Customer Account Managers
Evaluates design strategies and challenges to ensure optimal setup of equipment;
Provides technical feedback during product failure investigations, safety investigations, and customer complaints
Assists facility engineers and the Compounding group with LEAN projects and continuous improvement objectives
Reviews equipment and facility upgrades as part of the planning process to identify areas that impact safety or suitability of the changes (provides User Requirements and ensures that the changes will support those requirements
Provide costing reviews to the New Projects team and review performance against targeted costs.
Participate in FAT testing and IQ/OQ/PQ activities in the plant.

Education and Experience:
BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry required (Chemical Engineering preferred)
2 - 3 years formulation development experience in the Cosmetic, Personal Care, or OTC drug manufacturing areas with emphasis on semi solid and liquid preparations
Familiarity with LEAN and Six Sigma elements
Knowledge, Skills and
Direct cGMP manufacturing experience desired;
Direct experience with batching equipment including homogenizers, educators, kettles,
Experience in preparation and execution of commissioning and IQ/OQ/PQ of equipment;
Direct experience with project management and project planning.
