ISO New England oversees the 24/7 operation of the power grid that covers the six-states of  New England and administers the region’s $10+ billion “stock exchange” for the buying and selling of wholesale electricity. The power system is constantly evolving as new technologies emerge and energy policies evolve. There is a lot going on at our organization behind the scenes to make sure the grid continuously yields reliable electricity at competitive prices while addressing the unique challenges that come along with our industry.
Intern: Measurement Based Dynamic Equivalent and Transient Stability Assessment Tool Enhancement
 
Business Architecture and Technology provides business and technical solutions to various business units at ISO New England. The department also conducts research and development in market design and operations, power system planning and operations. This intern will perform research on measurement based dynamic equivalent of external systems and enhance the on-line transient stability assessment tool.

How Will You Make an Impact:
  • Conduct the research of dynamic equivalent of external systems using PMU measurements
  • Study the Transmission Operation Guides
  • Work with ISO engineers to add additional interface limits to the on-line transient stability assessment tool (TSAT)
What We Look For: 
  • Strong power system transient stability background
  • Excellent mathematical and programming skills
  • Familiarity with Synchrophasor technology a plus
  • Experience in using TSAT, PSS/E and PowerWorld software in transient stability simulation a plus

Minimum Education Level: PhD
Preferred Majors: Power System Engineering
To be eligible for the internship candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
