ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Mixed Signal Solutions department at HRL Laboratories is a highly talented team of scientists and engineers with diverse backgrounds in integrated circuit design, advanced packaging and integration, novel signal processing and algorithm development, and integration / characterization of highly complex digital and mixed signal systems and subsystems for commercial and government applications in an innovative research and development environment. We seek a creative scientist / engineer to work as part of a project team in this environment performing advanced signal processing algorithm development in MATLAB, Pyton, C/C++, Verilog or System Verilog language, algorithm debugging, software-hardware co-design, system & circuit simulations, and performance verification. Essential duties include a) developing advanced algorithms for real-time signal processing, system control, machine learning, and artificial intelligence applications in Matlab, Pyton, or C/C++ language, and b) effective implementations of algorithms and signal processing functions on COTS and custom hardware including custom digital platforms (e.g. FPGA, GPU, custom mixed-signal and digital ASICs). Technical duties require candidate to present details of work to colleagues during design reviews, create and manage work plans to meet or exceed schedule deadlines, and provide written and oral summaries of work performed as needed (e.g. for reports).
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: At least 5 years of experience in advanced algorithm development and software-hardware co-design with emphasis on real-time signal processing/data streaming applications, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Experience with unconventional computing platforms, adaptive dynamical systems, spiking/non-spiking neural networks, reservoir computers are plus.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, C/C++, Verilog, and System Verilog. Experience with reservoir computers and neural networks. Good understanding of digital signal processing, dynamical/control systems, and communication theory. Knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering and circuit design principles. Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and proficiency in writing reports. Experience with software-hardware co-design and digital circuit design for custom ASIC development is a plus.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, complex electronic equipment, oral and written communication, interaction with vendors/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.
