SCIENTIST IV - Quantum Integrated Photonics

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Design, build, perform, and analyze experiments and systems in quantum integrated photonics, chip-scale electro-optics, and nonlinear optics.
Specific tasks will include design, simulation, and oversight in the fabrication of integrated optical chips targeting quantum and nonlinear effects; design and construction of cryogenic electro-optical experimental apparatus; and data collection and analysis.
Additional job functions include writing invention disclosures, publishing papers, attending and presenting at conferences, and briefing internal and external customers.
Research experience in one or more of the following areas: photonics, cryogenics, fiber and free-space optics, microscopy, lasers, semiconductor device characterization, RF engineering, quantum information technology.
Experience developing innovative solutions based upon the application of relevant research results from a wide variety of sources.
Experience engineering quantum nonlinear photonic systems, e.g. entanglement sources and single-photon counting.
Extensive experience with multi-physics simulation (both device and optical system), computer-aided design and layout, micro/nano fabrication, and test.
Experience with free space optics, fiber optics, and microwave photonic systems design and experiments (optical sources and detectors, free-space optics, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, fiber splicers, VNAs, spectrum analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes).
Hands-on fabrication and processing experience of semiconductor materials for photonic devices, i.e. Si, GaAs, InP, InGaAs, InGaAsP, GaN, AlGaN, and lithium niobate, including associated dielectrics and metals. A record of publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals.
Background in one or more of the following areas: quantum optics, photonics engineering, electro-optic engineering, ultrafast laser physics, optical systems engineering, optical semiconductor spectroscopy.
In-depth knowledge of optical components and optical bench-top assemblies, as well as of microwave components and assemblies. Strong desire to learn new technologies and flexibility to change from one project to another quickly.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Strong communication (verbal and written) skills, active participation in R&D team activities. Able and willing to occasionally travel.
Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, EE or related fields
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (e.g. driver’s license special tools or restrictions):
U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status required.
