Section Lead – Test and Metrology

Essential Job Functions:
Become a member of a team that produces the world’s fastest GaN transistors and MMIC’s, quantum nanoelectrical devices and cutting-edge semiconductor devices. Lead a team of 8-10 engineers in the electrical test and metrology group of the Microfabrication Technology Laboratory.
Candidate must be able to lead a development engineering team in process control monitoring on wafer test and advanced semiconductor metrology related activities required to analyze and characterize III-V (GaAs, InP, GaN, etc.) and silicon materials in the area of advanced HBT devices and circuits, as well as nanomaterials fabrication.
Candidate must have in-depth semiconductor processing knowledge and hands-on experience with metrology and test equipment. Lead development engineers through process development and problem resolution tasks.
Write and perform experiments, record and analyze data. Present results and recommendations to HRL research staff, line management and customers.
Experience and skills in characterization and testing of semiconductor devices and circuits, with an emphasis in RF device characterization and/or critical dimension scanning electron microscopy and focused ion beam.
Experience with creation, implementation and operation of wafer level test systems for, experience creating on wafer test structures for process control monitoring, on wafer and die level testing and metrology and characterization methods including SEM, AFM, SIMS and spectroscopic measurements.
Candidates should possess a proven track record of developing novel and successful solutions to complex technical issues. Must be an independent individual that can identify areas in need of improvement; problem solve technical and interpersonal issues; and handle task scheduling. Computer skills using Matlab, C++, MS Office, SQL databases and JMP.
An understanding of compound semiconductor devices and circuits, and related processes. Intimate knowledge of on-wafer semi-automated semiconductor testing equipment (VNA, Pulsed IV, LCR, SMUs, Oscilloscopes, etc.) and knowledge of integration and utilization for device characterization.
Knowledge of metrology tools (optical and laser microscopes, ellipsometer, SEM/EDX, AFM, XRD, C-SAM, etc.) and standard scientific software programs (JMP, Matlab, IGOR, etc). Leadership skills that involve leading a dedicated group of test/metrology engineers and coordination with the research staff/management. Working knowledge of focused ion beam and scanning transmission electron microscopy systems is highly desired.
Essential Physical/ Mental Requirements:
Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.
Must be able to work within a class 10 Cleanroom.
Must be able to work safely with and around potentially toxic and hazardous materials, chemicals and gases.
Good hand eye coordination.
Must be a strong leader with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
