Engineer V - GaN Process Integration & Product Engineer
EDUCATION DESIRED: Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Sciences, Physics, Chemistry or related field.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Join the team making the world’s fastest GaN. This exciting role will help HRL to push the state of the art in production of advanced GaN HEMT and MMIC technologies. The role has two key aspects. First, the engineer will provide technical direction to HRL’s GaN processing team within a class 10 clean room with the goal of improvements in test yield and wafer out predictability. Second, the engineer will play a key role in delivering on HRL’s GaN Multi-Project Wafer commitments, both to internal and external customers. The GaN Process Integration & Product Engineer will also be involved with development of next generation GaN technologies, and is expected to develop the expertise of more junior engineers at HRL.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: 5 or more years of experience with GaN wafer processing and testing. Deep experience with one or more process modules (dry etch, wet etch, lithography, metals, etc) is a plus. Candidates should possess a proven track record of developing process solutions both to improve on-time delivery of wafers and to improve within-wafer test yield. Familiarity with design of experiments is desired. Statistical analysis and interpretation of collected process data is required. Experience with reliability testing is highly desirable. Familiarity with CAD mask layout design is a plus. The ability to clearly communicate technical issues to parties of varying knowledge level is a key aspect to succeeding in this role at HRL, as is the ability to present results effectively to key stakeholders. Experience with quality control in a low-volume manufacturing environment is advantageous. The candidate must have authored scientific publications and given technical presentations.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Deep knowledge of GaN semiconductor processing and testing is essential. Knowledge of metrology tools, interpretation of results, and the ability to troubleshoot are essential. Knowledge of semiconductor device (HEMT) physics, RF device design, modeling, epitaxial materials growth, and reliability testing are desirable. Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) are highly desirable.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency in use of computers, engineering work stations, complex electronic equipment, verbal and written communication, interaction with customers/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity. Must be able to work within a class 10 Cleanroom. Must be able to work safely with and around potentially toxic and hazardous materials, chemicals and gases.
