Engineer V - Software Firmware Engineer
EDUCATION DESIRED: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related engineering discipline with at least 10 years of related experience
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Develop custom data acquisition and analysis systems for cryogenic optical electronic devices. Map software and firmware requirements to application and program needs for characterization, and quality control of IR devices. Design and implementation of radiometric test plans, verification plans, and processes that provide traceability through device modelling, design, manufacture. Must give effective technical briefs and contribute to technical papers and proposals.
EXPERIENCE DESIRED: Experience in hardware and software development for control of complex systems. Experience with implementing data analysis, display, reporting, and data structures for solid-state devices at cryogenic temperatures. Track record of success in designing firmware and software interfaces for real time data acquisition systems. Experience with analysis of noise in measurement systems and of effects of noise on device operation. Desire experience with testing of complex microelectronic, optical, and cryogenic assemblies, particularly as needed to support assembly and integration. History of demonstrated technical innovation (writing technical proposals, patents, core contributor on development projects) is desired. Team based technical performance is essential.
KNOWLEDGE DESIRED: Fluent in several software languages such as C, C+, Matlab, or Python, and hardware languages such as Verilog or VHDL. Experience working in hardware firmware development environments such as Xilinx or CUDA. Familiarity with imaging libraries and tool kits used in imaging display and analysis. Knowledge of database interfaces and data structures for SQL or similar. Understanding of windows or Linux ecosystem for device drivers and OS direct memory access. Knowledge of software for modeling, analysis, and data collection.Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and proficiency in distilling date and generating test reports and presentations.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform safely in semiconductor processing and material and device analysis laboratories, and be able to climb ladders. Must be able and willing to travel.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (e.g. driver’s license special tools or restrictions): U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
