Politics / Fact Check editor
USA TODAY is seeking an experienced editor for its fact-check program.
This editor would be part of a growing team fact checking messaging during the busy 2020 election cycle. Fairness, accuracy and excellent news judgment are paramount, as are strong editing and time-management skills.
The editor should also should be a team player, capable of working collaboratively with editors and reporters throughout our 30-person DC bureau as well as across the 200-plus sites in the USA TODAY Network.
We’re looking for someone to:
Edit and post stories that gauge the accuracy of political messaging.
Optimize content, paying special attention to headlines, SEO and fields visible to social audiences.
Lead not only on reporting and accuracy but also fairness and context.
Use social and other tools to spot high-interest items.
Uphold the highest standards of journalistic integrity, ethics and credibility.
We're looking for someone who has Washington or political-reporting experience. This role could involve some evening or weekend work. We would consider remote work for the right candidate.
