The Patient Services Lead will elevate the University of Colorado patient experience by functioning as a leader and resource to the Patient Services Department. The individual in this position will coordinate all external vendor operations to ensure all bad debt/collections efforts are handled timely and efficiently. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Field escalated calls from the patient, collection’s vendors, hospital and/or insurance companies.
- Build and maintain professional relationships by providing excellent customer service to CU Medicine leadership, faculty, patients, administrators, hospital, and associated staff.
- Assist management to maintain ongoing quality assurance and recommend solutions for identified issues.
- Train, encourage, and assist employees to acquire knowledge and essential skills for effective job performance.
- Perform specialized tasks such as resolve patient disputes and handling facility concerns.
- Complete timely analysis of collections/bad debt accounts and ensure appropriate patient accounts are sent to collections.
- Manage all collection accounts in the legal stage of the process and ensure all appropriate actions are taken.
- Return patient messages and de-escalate as needed in a timely manner.
- Represent CU Medicine in court when necessary pertaining to collections matters.
- Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in the healthcare field with exposure to direct patient contact on billing issues, insurance billing and medical terminology. Must exhibit proven leadership ability for coordination of staff workflow. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a working understanding of ICD10 and CPT coding, medical terminology and accounts receivable management. Requires effective and current PC software skills and knowledge of computer accounting systems and applications. Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication. Exceptional interpersonal skills, professional maturity and the ability to exercise sound judgment is essential to success. Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration and/or physicians and faculty. Proven ability in collections and negotiation is desired. The ideal candidate will provide positive public relations for CU Medicine, and must work cooperatively with co-workers at all levels.
