Senior General Accounting Manager

The Senior General Accounting Manager will manage a set
of accounting activities in a centralized environment to ensure compliance with
generally accepted accounting principles, corporate policies and external
audits. This person will manage the monthly close and preparation of analysis
in support of the financial statements by guiding a team of six-eight individuals,
including two General Accounting Managers.


The Senior General Accounting Manager will report to and
work closely with the Director of Accounting & Reporting and others in the
organization in analysis and reconciliation of accounts and in development and
implementation of accounting policies, procedures and controls.


The position interacts with and supports Regional Finance
Directors, working together to ensure accurate and complete financial
statements, budgets and analyses.In our
centralized environment, the team of Omaha-based accountants is responsible for
the financials of 31 daily newspapers, associated websites and 49 paid weekly
publications.


The ideal candidate possesses leadership capabilities,
solid operational and technical accounting background and works proactively to
drive results. This person is a self-starter, flexible, has a high level of
integrity and is action and goal-oriented in a fast-paced, team-oriented,
collaborative environment


Responsibilities:


Manage the monthly financial close process, including
ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing and approving
journal entries, account reconciliations and variance report preparation.Review and approve accounts payable invoices
and expense reports for assigned locations.


Guide and mentor team of 6-8 accountants, including two
Managers.


Participate in the ongoing development/establishment of
accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies including the
review and implementation of process and system changes.


Build relationships with Regional Finance Directors and
Accounting/Finance counterparts in other company accounting locations.Respond to questions and provide guidance on
a timely basis.


Continued focus on improving processes and gaining efficiencies
in accounting workflow


Learn and train others on GL software (SBS)



Desired Skills:


Proven team player with a minimum of ten years of
Accounting experience, most recently in a centralized environment preferred


Prior experience managing a team of 5+ individuals,
including hiring and training


Strong accounting acumen, CPA desired not required


High level of interpersonal skills; desire and ability to
motivate individuals at all levels


Very organized and self-directed


Strong attention to detail


Excellent written and verbal communication


Solid Excel skills
