Food and Entertainment Reporter
The Omaha World-Herald is seeking a full-time, versatile entertainment reporter, with a focus on food and dining who can also cover other entertainment including music, movies and general features. Dining coverage will include openings and closings for restaurants and bars, events, food-related features and dining reviews. Specific assignments will be based on coverage needs. Versatility is key for this position, and the best candidates will have a flexible and team-oriented nature. Hours are somewhat flexible but would include some nights and weekends depending on coverage needs.
Report and write food stories (dining openings and closings, nightlife openings and closings, occasional reviews and other content), entertainment stories (movies, music, TV and other content) and general features as assigned.
Write with authority, insight and perspective.
Work on a variety of stories at once and juggle assignments of various complexities.
Develop story ideas with entertainment editor and other staffers based on local events and happenings.
Prepare content for publishing on Omaha.com and Omaha Dines including headline writing and adding related content (photo, video, social media embeds, related stories, etc.).
Post to social media including personal and World-Herald accounts.
Journalism or related college degree
Ability to pitch and write various story types (reviews, news stories, features and alternative story forms) depending on what is needed
Understanding of various social media platforms is required
A command of writing, reporting abilities as well as a passion for food and entertainment, a passion for the news business and a willingness to be part of a busy team that serves a large print and online audience
Two years reporting experience is preferred
