Peak Adventures’ purpose is to kindle personal growth, leadership, and connections through experiences in the outdoors.
 

ASI’s Peak Adventures is an outdoor adventure program dedicated to getting Sac State Students outside. Peak Adventures provides guided outdoor trips, low cost gear rentals, full service bike repair at The Bike Shop, summer youth camps and team building at The Challenge Center.

SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Peak Adventures Programs Specialist, the Green & Gold Youth Camp Counselor is responsible for the daily operations of Green and Gold camp. This position works as part of a two-counselor team and is responsible for the safety, instruction and participation of campers, ages 8-11 years old in games, arts & crafts and other camp activities. The Green and Gold Youth Camp Counselor will typically be scheduled 4-6 weeks during the summer. Each week of camp is Monday through Friday, with typical 9.5 hour days.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversight of 6 – 25 campers per week.
• Attend mandatory trainings related to the position.
• Oversee group dynamics of the campers and managing group cohesion.
• Maintain camper behavior, discipline and enforce consequences.
• Follow risk management procedures
• Lead & facilitate games, arts & crafts and other camp activities.
• Communicate with parents regarding camper behavior issues.
• Oversee camp snacks and practice good food handling.
• Take pictures throughout camp week.
• Clean-up and maintain camp room and supplies.
• Belay participants on some climbing elements at the Peak Adventures Challenge Center.
• Teach and practice Leave No Trace (LNT).
• Daily check-in and check-out of campers.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must meet Sacramento State student assistant eligibility requirements
• Must complete the Peak Adventures 2-day Youth Camp Training
• CPR Certification (On-line certification not accepted)
• First Aid Certification (On-line certification not accepted)
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience working with youth
• Experience with arts & crafts
• Experience leading games & facilitating activities
• Experience belaying either indoors or outdoors
• Water safety skills A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily after any candidate can be offered a position with Associated Students, Inc.
