Key Account Manager Automotive
SUMMARY OF POSITION The Key Account Manager will be responsible for leading pursuits for the automotive segment. Working within the sales team, he/she will work closely with the Proposal/Estimating team plus other operations personnel to manage the sales process. The role requires strategic and tactical thinking of how to develop customer accounts, identify new business opportunities, get onto approved bid lists, and develop winning sales plans. The role will represent the portfolio of the group’s capabilities namely, concept development, engineering, integrated solutions specific to assembly tooling and automation products along with varying levels of system integration. Technical aptitude is critical along with an understanding of automotive manufacturing. The position is located in the greater Detroit area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Development of customer account growth plans, determination of specific sales forecasts and lead overall sales activities to achieve the sales forecast for the segment. • Development of bid lists, defining scope of work and building all relationship activities with identified automotive customers. • Lead specific opportunities. This can involve intelligence gathering, developing a winning sales plan, liaising with proposal and estimating on the technical solution and pricing, selling value to customer and leading negotiations. • Develop and maintain professional relationships with all levels within a customer. Maintain a cadence of communication and interaction with customers. Coordinate with other Ascent personnel who interact with the customer to ensure an optimum approach. • Maintain CRM (Salesforce) data and other reporting requirements. • Represent and present the Ascent Aerospace value proposition, managing the audience and material to be used. • Coordinate and communicate with the sales team and other personnel on sales activities. • Contribute to management meetings and initiatives requiring sales input. • Always ensure personal and company activities are conducted ethically.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • 5+ years in account management, preferable in the Aerospace or Automotive tooling and/or integration segments. • 5 + years of proven success with selling customized technical products and solutions • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred. Experience in lieu of formal education will be considered. • Must have relevant computer skills including Excel, Power point, and Outlook. CRM experience (Salesforce or other relevant program) strongly preferred. • Demonstrated pre-existing relationships with key automotive and/or Tier 1 customers • Requires demonstrated history of developing automotive accounts up from inception.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Clearly understands the bid list supplier process for getting specified and qualified. • Strong understanding of the fundamentals around automotive customer needs, strategies, supplier values, organization structure, procurement processes and future expenditure plans. • Understands the quality certification process for automotive (ISO 18001, TS16949, etc.) • Manages time effectively and dependable. • Ability to adapt to change within the processes of sales and organization as a whole • Ability to develop and maintain customer and internal relationships.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS • Regular travel required in USA.
