The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.

The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.

The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.

RESPONSIBLE TO:Director of Community Relations, Marketing & Development




FUNCTION:



To obtain experience in the field of public relations for a non-profit, human-service agency by working on a variety of projects aimed at improving community awareness of The Resource Center and the corporations with which it works.




SPECIFIC DUTIES:




  1. Interviews TRC staff and service recipients to gather information for articles.

  2. Develops content to help tell “TRC’s stories” via TRC printed and electronic media, as well as local news media.Where appropriate, shoots still photographs and video to accompany the stories.

  3. Assists in the preparation, publication and dissemination of newsletters and annual reports for The Resource Center and Filling the Gap, Inc., to include reports focusing on initiatives such as special events and activities pertaining to FTG’s various Board-designated funds.

  4. Assists in developing and disseminating content to support TRC’s social media efforts.

  5. Develops content for TRC web site, brochures, flyers, information cards, etc.

  6. Supports activities pertaining to TRC and Filling the Gap special events.

  7. Performs all other duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Current enrollment in a college or university and pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, public relations, writing, or other related field.Recent graduates also accepted.Strong verbal and written skills.Ability to work on own with direction.Valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle for work, or equivalent accommodations.
