The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities.

The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll.

The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life.

ADAPTIVE EQUIPMENT COORDINATOR RESPONSIBLE TO: Assistant Executive Director of IDD Services/or Designee FUNCTION: To serve as the agency’s foremost authority in adaptive equipment, technology and/or other advances designed to increase, enhance and/or promote independence or otherwise support individuals with disabilities. Will primarily support the Residential Services Division to track, coordinate and assist in exploring and obtaining adaptive equipment and/or technology needs for the individuals residing within TRC-operated residential facilities, but may be called upon to support other departments whose service recipients may benefit from adaptive equipment and/or assistive technologies. Responsible for coordinating the use of Smart Home technology within TRC-operated residences. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be action-oriented and demonstrate perseverance and perspective in how best to see projects and assignments through from beginning to end. Must be creative and possess strong technical learning and functional/technical skills, as well as the ability to be a versatile learner who can adapt to changing needs and demands quickly. Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including approachability, interpersonal savvy, organizational agility, patience, listening and political savvy, with focus on meeting the needs of a diverse group of customers. Must possess and demonstrate process management skills, including the ability to effectively manage and measure work and manage through systems. Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. Physical condition or reasonable accommodation(s) commensurate with the demands of the job. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, clinical discipline or related field; OR Associate’s Degree in Technology, clinical discipline or related field and two (2) years of demonstrated experience in the procurement and implementation of adaptive equipment/assistive technologies. Valid driver’s license including use of personal vehicle for work or equivalent accommodations is required. SPECIFIC DUTIES: CLINICAL: 1. In cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Team, including Occupational Therapy, Speech, Physical Therapy, Clinical, Residential staff and/or other agency staff, as applicable, assesses identified individuals’ adaptive/technology needs designed to increase, enhance or promote independence. 2. Ensures timely repair, replacement and maintenance of adaptive equipment including but not limited to wheelchairs, splints, and communication devices. 3. Provides training on adaptive equipment to staff in order to ensure proper usage of equipment, as needed and/or applicable. ADMINISTRATIVE: 1. In conjunction with Service Coordinator or Residence Coordinator, obtains and maintains copy of prescriptions needed for adaptive equipment for the vendor for Medicaid Regulations. 2. In conjunction with the Service Coordinator or Residence Coordinator, coordinates and/or secures funding for all adaptive equipment. 3. With input from Team members, assesses the quality of services provided by the vendors in order to ensure competent services. 4. Researches new technology ideas for communication, programming and Smart Home adaptive equipment to ensure maximum independence of individuals. Will serve as Agency’s primary authority on adaptive equipment and other technologies designed to enhance and/or promote the independence of individuals with disabilities served by TRC. 5. Attends conferences, seminars and/or trade shows to learn about new technology or use of current technology(ies) for individuals with disabilities. 6. Maintains list of all adaptive equipment for each individual, including all information and status/condition of equipment. 7. Serves as liaison between program staff and applicable clinical staff regarding adaptive equipment/technology needs. 8. In conjunction with the Director of Residential Services and/or designee, develops policies and procedures in regards to adaptive equipment. 9. Represents the Residential Department and/or The Resource Center various meeting and committee functions within or outside of the organization as needed or assigned. OTHER: 1. Performs all other duties as needed or assigned by Supervisor or other Administrative Staff. REQUIRED TOOLS: 1. Badge access to Residential homes and day sites 2. Cell Phone (Basic Level) 9/11; 3/19 IDD Services THE RESOURCE CENTER Grade 16 PTO/CAT: 3 Bachelor’s Degree in Technology, clinical discipline or related field; OR Associate’s Degree in Technology, clinical discipline or related field and two (2) years of demonstrated experience in the procurement and implementation of adaptive equipment/assistive technologies. Valid driver’s license including use of personal vehicle for work or equivalent accommodations is required.
